Wet conditions meant it was not possible to apply a new surface to the carriageway

Wet weather conditions have delayed work to improve a part of the TT course leading to the closure of the road extended for an extra day.

The A18 Mountain Road has been closed from the Bungalow to the Creg-ny-Baa for maintenance and repairs ahead of the 2024 event since Monday morning.

Some of the works, including hedge cutting, ditching, line painting and putting up signs and equipment has been carried out.

However, planned works on the road surface have not been able to be carried out due to the wet conditions.

Forecast

The Department of Infrastructure, which is carrying out the work alongside its contractors, said that the weather had been "far poorer on Snaefell than was forecast".

As a result a section of the carriageway that had been planed in anticipation of better weather on Tuesday was not able to be re-laid as planned.

The southern section of the road remained closed overnight as it was deemed unsafe ahead of the completion of the works.

The department said the road was expected to reopen to traffic at 16:30 BST.
