The law forbids the taking of birds from the wild

A man has been arrested after police found six wild birds being kept at a house.

Officers from West Mercia Police and the RSPCA found the birds on Meadow Close in Madeley, Telford, on Wednesday.

Among those found were a goldfinch, a redpoll, a siskin and a brambling.

A 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of taking and being in possession of a wild bird. He has since been released on bail.

The Wildlife and Countryside Act, external forbids the taking of birds from the wild.

West Mercia Police encouraged anyone with concerns about wildlife and other rural crimes to join its Rural Watch, external scheme.
