A Guernsey centenarian was given a sneak peak at part of the Liberation cavalcade a few days before the official event.

Helene Gallienne, 104, normally watches the cavalcade from her front garden but the route is not due to pass her house this year.

After her daughter Charmaine Gallienne posted on Facebook that her mother was disappointed to be missing the event, members of the Guernsey Military Motors & Cycles (GMMC) decided to make an extra journey just for her.

She said: "I could have cried through being so proud to think that they had made all that effort for my mum."

Matthew Broughton from the GMMC, who organised the event, said Helene's story had "struck a chord with me".

He said: "My gran would have been 104 years old this year and she was also evacuated from Guernsey in 1940 too.
