He was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Armed response officers attended the Royal Berkshire Hospital to protect the victim, police said.

Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust confirmed officers had been at the hospital's A&E.

Det Insp Stuart Streeter, from Thames Valley Police, said an investigation is ongoing.

“While we understand that this incident may increase concerns in the community, we believe this was an isolated incident and at this stage no further risks to the public have been identified," he said.
