The winner of Interior Design Masters 2024 has said taking part was the "most intense but amazing experience of my entire life".

Roisin Quinn, who grew up on the Isle of Man and now lives in Wirral, has been crowned champion of the fifth series of the BBC competition, which was hosted by Alan Carr alongside designer Michelle Ogundehin.

The 30-year-old beat runner-up Matt Smith-Wood to win the series, which had seen 10 competitors take on challenges including revamping a dressing room at Wembley Stadium.

A self-confessed "colour-mad" designer, Ms Quinn impressed guest judges singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor and retail consultant Mary Portas during the series with her bold, floral creations.

The former Ramsey resident, who will now create a collection for a homeware brand as her prize, said it "feels like a huge victory for us all" because everyone who took part had "worked so hard".

"To go up against Matt who’s insanely talented and to win, that was like 'wow', I was in complete shock, I was shaking like a leaf," she said.

Ms Quinn admitted she had almost talked herself out of applying to take part as she could not sew or upholster before the programme.

She had also not been successful when applying for a university place to study interior design, which she said she now saw as "a blessing".

Ms Quinn said she started honing her style when her parents gave her "full reign" when decorating their home in Ramsey in 2020 after being furloughed during the pandemic.

"I started introducing different wallpapers and colours and my mum was like 'go for it' and it just spiralled," she said.

The former travel advisor, who quit her job to take part in the competition, said support from the Isle of Man had been "amazing" throughout the experience and she "really felt people were rooting for her".

Reflecting on her designs, Ms Quinn said: "If I’ve created a space and it brings people joy, and they walk in and instantly smile and feel like someone’s given them a big hug, that is what I want to achieve."

"There’s so much power in that, because there’s so much doom and gloom in the world."

"If you're thinking of painting your front room pink, just go for it."
