Coventry Cathedral has appealed for witnesses after a stained glass window was damaged.

The cathedral said it believed the incident happened between 16:00 BST on 28 April and 08:00 on 29 April.

It added that the Baptistery Window, made up of 198 coloured glass panels measuring 26m (85ft) high, was one of the most popular sights in the building.

Dean John Witcombe said the cathedral was dismayed to see the window damaged and hoped that its cause would be established.

"We know how much this building means to our city, and our visitors from across the world," he added.

The window was voted by the Architectural Digest in 2023 as one of the world's top 25 most breathtaking stained glass windows.

The cathedral said it was working with the police to establish what happened and appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.
