An event which attracted thousands of dog lovers and their pets has had to cancel its second day because of wet weather.

The first day of Dogfest went ahead as planned on Saturday at Losely Park near Guildford, Surrey.

But organisers said heavy rain overnight from Saturday into Sunday meant the venue could not host the second day, after the park's car parks were left flooded.

They say they will be contacting people who bought tickets about arranging refunds.

The event was one of seven planned to take place across the country

The event, a celebration of dog ownership, was one of seven planned for stately homes around the country this year.

Cat Stanford, Dogfest's marketing director, said: "It's our 10th birthday and on Saturday we had over 10,000 visitors and 6,000 dogs.

"We had loads of activities, including an action arena, a have-a-go ring and behaviour advice."

Ms Stanford said: "We didn't have any issues yesterday, the rain held off, but overnight it rained a lot and Sunday just wasn't possible."

She said the company would be contacting ticket holders in the next 48 hours to arrange refunds.
