Four teenagers have been charged in connection with a fatal crash in Staffordshire on New Year's Day 2023.

Retired teacher Joan Hill, 73, from Rugeley, died in the two-car crash on the A5 near Longford Island, Cannock.

Two 18-year-old men from Walsall are accused of offences including causing death by dangerous driving and vehicle theft, with two 16-year-old boys from Walsall accused of offences including aggravated vehicle taking and death caused by an accident.

All four were due to appear before magistrates in Cannock on 18 June, said Staffordshire Police.

The crash involved a red Peugeot in which Ms Hill was travelling and a blue Ford Kuga.

She died at the scene.

Her family continued to be supported by specially trained officers, said police.

The charges in full

Aiden Adams, 18, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, three counts of theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle, and committing an act or series of acts with intent to pervert the course of justice.

He is also accused of making off without making payment, theft of a pedal cycle, attempted theft of a pedal cycle, and theft of a mail bag or postal packet, Staffordshire Police has said.

Bryan Micklewright, 18, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, theft from a motor vehicle, and three counts of theft of a motor vehicle.

He is also accused of burglary other than a dwelling with intent to steal, making off without making payment, theft of a pedal cycle and attempted theft of a pedal cycle.

The 16-year-olds cannot be named because of their age.

One boy is charged with aggravated vehicle taking, death caused by an accident, three counts of theft of a motor vehicle and theft from a motor vehicle.

He is also accused of committing an act or series of acts with intent to pervert the course of justice, making off without making payment, and attempted theft of a pedal cycle.

The second boy is charged with aggravated vehicle taking and death caused by an accident.

He also faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle, making off without making payment, and attempted theft of a pedal cycle.
