Two people on board a speedboat had to be rescued after a mechanical failure left them stranded off the Lancashire coast.

Fleetwood's RNLI lifeboat was launched on at about 13:55 BST on Sunday near Wyre Light, the ruined lighthouse in Morecambe Bay.

The volunteer crew dropped the speedboat's anchor in an attempt to make it safe before they brought the two people onboard and back to shore.

The speedboat was later recovered so it would not become a danger to shipping, the RNLI said.
