A baby is in a stable condition in hospital after being bitten by a dog at home.

The girl sustained serious injuries in the incident in the Hatherley area of Cheltenham just before 18:00 BST on 14 April.

She was rushed to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and later transferred to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, where she remains.

Gloucestershire Police said the pet dog - which is not a banned breed - has been seized by officers.

Initially critical, her condition has since improved, but she remains in hospital.

A force spokesperson confirmed the pet dog, which is a large breed, was seized by police and is at a secure kennel while investigations continue.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to get in touch with police on 101.
