Passengers spotted inhaling nitrous oxide on motorway

Police seized 23 bottles of nitrous oxide from a car after the occupants were seen inhaling from balloons on a motorway.

Lancashire Police officers stopped the Volkswagen Golf in the early hours at Forton Services on the M6.

They said the occupants were seen on CCTV inhaling the gas.

Officers searched the vehicle and found the canisters, which were seized.

Posting on X, the force said the occupants were "all dealt with for drug offences as possession is a criminal offence".

Lancashire Police said no arrests were made four people were given words of advice.
