A man in his 30s has died after being struck by a lorry while trying to cross the M1 late at night.

Police said the man was hit by a Mercedes HGV while trying to cross the northbound carriageway near Northampton, at about 22:30 BST on Monday.

The motorway was closed for several hours as a result.

A police spokeswoman has appealed for witnesses.

"A man attempted to cross the carriageway, adjacent to the services at Junction 15A, and was in collision with... a blue Mercedes HGV," a statement said.

"As a result of the collision the man, aged in his 30s, sadly died.

"Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage of the collision, or of anyone standing near to the M1 carriageway prior to the incident."
