Plans for a new housing development and a public open space in Surrey are to be discussed at a local council meeting.

The proposals for 83 new homes in Farnham were submitted to Waverley Borough Council and will be debated at a committee meeting next Wednesday.

According to the application, 24 of the homes will be affordable, and there will be a community orchard and play space.

The site for the new homes will be located north of the University for the Creative Arts.

'Sustainable location'

The plans were submitted by Gleeson Land Limited.

Application documents state the site is in "a sustainable location, just over 10 minutes walking distance of a range of local shops, services, health and education facilities".

The papers also say that the development "will likely result in economic benefits" for the area, and points to the creation of construction jobs and additional spending by new residents.

However, a petition objecting to the proposed development was submitted to the council last month.

The petition signed by 208 local residents pointed to the potential loss of residential amenity and the increase in traffic.
