A 14-year-old girl, who is accused of taking a knife into a high school, has been charged with attempted murder.

The teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was due to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court to face four charges.

The case relates to an incident in Stockport on 2 May, Greater Manchester Police said.

The girl was also charged with making threats to kill, involving the same female complainant as the attempted murder charge.

She was also charged with possessing a knife at a school and faces a separate charge of possessing a knife in a public place on Stockport Road.

The teenager was remanded into custody.

Det Ch Insp Ian Wrench from Greater Manchester Police said: “I understand this news will cause concern amongst the community, but we will have local officers in the area in the coming days to offer reassurance.

“We continue to work closely with the local authority and partner agencies to ensure safeguarding measures are in place.”
