A police force has revealed the two Tesla vehicles it has received as part of a trial.

Cumbria Police got two electric cars on Monday and will test them until the end of July, the force said.

The scheme is fully funded through Tesla with the manufacturer also covering all charging costs, a force spokesman added.

The two vehicles will be used by Cumbria's roads policing unit as part of operational patrols.

Cumbria Police said the force was given a Model Y and a Model 3.

According to Tesla, the Model Y, external has a top speed of 135mph (217km/h) and a range of up to 331 miles (522km), while the Model 3, external can reach 125mph (201km/h) with a range of up to 390 miles (628km).

The cars have already been seen out on patrol in Carlisle.

Other forces are also currently carrying out trials with Tesla cars, Cumbria's spokesman said.

Tesla has been approached for comment.
