Guernsey coastguards have been called to reports of a boat on fire in the approach channel to the Queen Elizabeth II Marina marina.

The St Peter Port onshore lifeboat was launched at 09:54 BST to the 10m (33ft) vessel on fire.

The stricken vessel was able to anchor and two crew on board were safely evacuated by a passing boat, officials said.

The lifeboat was eventually stood down once it was confirmed that all crew were safe and well, coastguards said.

Other vessels assisted with the response, including the Herm Trident V, and Guernsey Vessel Traffic Services tasked the harbour workboat Sarnia to assist.

The workboat was able to extinguish the fire from a distance using its water cannon.

A tow line was secured and the vessel was towed into St Peter Port Harbour for further inspection, coastguards said.
