A man who turned the upstairs and garage of a house into a cannabis factory has been jailed.

Police found 82 plants worth an estimated £68,800 when they raided a property in Archers Wood, Hampton Hargate, Peterborough.

Klodjan Rama, 30, of no fixed address, admitted cultivating cannabis. He was sentenced to a year in prison by a judge at Peterborough Crown Court.

Afterwards, police urged the public to look out for signs a property was being used to grow cannabis.

Tell-tale signs

When officers searched the house in Peterborough on 20 March they found the upstairs and garage had been "converted" for the cultivation of the plants.

They also seized growing equipment, scales and vacuum-seal bags.

Police are urging the public to report any suspicions about possible cannabis farms

Det Con Natal Melero, who investigated Rama's case, said Cambridgeshire Police was "working hard to tackle cannabis farms" because they could be linked to organised crime, human trafficking and modern slavery.

He said tell-tale signs a farm was in operation could include "covered-up windows, the constant buzz of ventilation, visitors at unsociable hours, bright lights on throughout the day and night, and condensation on windows".
