Shrewsbury to Wrexham rail lines open after delays

Railway lines between Shrewsbury and Wrexham General have reopened following "major delays" this morning.

Emergency services were called to an incident at 06:00 BST between the two stations, National Rail said.

Services were cancelled or delayed by up to 25 minutes, with disruption expected to last until about 10:00 BST. Lined reopened at about 09:15 BST.

Passengers had been diverted onto buses which replaced trains between Shrewsbury and Chester via Wrexham General, a spokesperson added.

British Transport Police said it had received a report of a person on the tracks near Weston Rhyn in Shropshire.

"Paramedics and fire also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene," a spokesperson said.

The incident was not thought to be suspicious and a file would be prepared for the coroner, they added.
