Lucy Rose ponders plans for her gap month in South America

Lucy Rose says her plan to play free gigs in places chosen by her fans is starting to shape up.

The idea came after she responded to fans' requests, coupled with a long-held desire to travel to South America.

"Every day I get loads and loads of messages from people saying 'I live in Chile' or 'I live in Peru' and I'll never get to see you play," she says.

"So I just thought however small the town or village, I will travel anywhere and play a gig for them."

She says she plans to fund the trip herself, so she's saving up so she can travel in January.

A couple of posts on social media have already resulted in hundreds of suggestions.

"All they have to do is find me a book shop or a park or someone's living room," Lucy says.

"And I'll just go and play whatever song they want with my acoustic guitar and see what happens."

Ideas sent in from South American fans so far mean Lucy's hoping to put on free gigs in Montevideo in Uruguay, Sao Paolo in Brazil and Santiago in Chile.

"I feel that's the best sort of promotion, if someone is a fan and they want me to play."

She's also interested in visiting Colombia and Argentina, as well as fitting in Mexico on her trip in the new year.

"Some people have done a gap year or they've travelled at some point," she explains.

"I've never done it except with work, so I kind of feel like this is my time to go explore the world and meet some great people."

Lucy says she plans to travel with her husband, as well as her guitar, and says she knows it's an idea that can work.

"When I did a gig in China, I really wanted to go see the Great Wall of China," she says.

"But it was really expensive as it was off season, so I just said if anyone has a car and wants to hang out with me tomorrow and take me to the Great Wall of China I'd really appreciate it.

"And then these three kids came up to me afterwards and picked me up the next morning and drove me there and I just explored with them.

"So I kind of just want to do some more of that and see what happens."

Lucy's tour started closer to home this week, and while it's not quite the same as say, Peru, she will be visiting Wrexham, Exeter, Oxford and many other venues across the UK in October and November.
