York Valkyrie have signed Australian hooker Remi Wilton for 2024 to fill the on-field void left by captain Sinead Peach's pregnancy.

The 27-year-old was captain of Canberra Raiders in rugby league as well as representing Central Queensland Capras and Monaro Colts.

In rugby union, Wilton was part of Australia Wallaroos squads and played for the Brumbies.

"I’ve had an awesome couple of days here so far," Wilton said.

"I really enjoyed getting stuck in at training on Wednesday night. I’ve always wanted to come and play rugby league here in the UK and this was the perfect opportunity to make the jump."

In addition to her playing career, Wilton was a mine worker and also worked on a cattle station.

Director of rugby Lindsay Anfield added: “Remi came on our radar through of a contact of [men's head coach] Andrew Henderson’s and we discovered that she’d be interested in making the move over to the UK.

“As soon as we found out about her interest, we jumped at the chance to bring here to York."
