Former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson has been voted out of US television series Dancing With The Stars.

The 42-year-old won praise from the judges for her strong performances, but it was not enough to convince the voting public.

Anderson called her participation on the show "one of the best experiences of my life".

Her departure leaves five celebrities in the latest season of the American version of Strictly Come Dancing.

The star said ballroom dancing had given her discipline she had never had before.

"I'm really proud of the effort I've put into it. I've never been able to apply myself in this kind of way. This is a dream come true."

Her professional partner Damian Whitewood called the actress "an amazing person to work with" and praised her dedication to dancing.

The winner of the current series is due to be determined at the end of this month.
