Comedian Rob Brydon will be honoured with the prestigious Sian Phillips award at the Bafta Cymru awards on Sunday.

Brydon, best known for BBC's Gavin and Stacey, is being recognised for his "outstanding achievements in network television and film".

"I've not won an award in Wales since 1984, Porthcawl Comprehensive Drama Student of The Year, so I'm both delighted and relieved this fallow spell has come to an end," said Brydon.

The 19th Bafta Cymru Film and TV awards will be held at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, hosted by Cerys Matthews and Aled Jones.

Director of BAFTA Cymru, Lisa Nesbitt said the organisation was "delighted" to be honouring Brydon with the award, named in honour of the celebrated Welsh actress.

"This special award has a firm tradition of recognising Welsh men and women for their outstanding achievements in network television and film," she added.

Brydon joins an exclusive club of Welsh talent to have won the Sian Philips Award and been recognised for their achievements and contribution in enriching the film and television experience for audiences in Wales and beyond.

Rob Brydon studied acting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama before joining BBC Wales as a radio and television presenter.

His TV breakthrough was comedy show Marion and Geoff and Human Remains, which both earned him British Comedy Awards.

BBC Wales produced sci-fi show Torchwood leads the nominations for the Bafta Cymru awards, with seven nods.
