Plans to combat illegal parking in Aberdeen

  • Published

Councillors in Aberdeen could take a tougher stance on illegal parking by increasing fines and impounding cars.

The plans have been drawn up to combat the problems caused by people whose parking causes an obstruction or creates a danger to other drivers.

An extension to parking hours across the city centre is also being considered.

Councillors will decide whether to approve the proposals next week.

On the cards is a plan to have vehicles towed away, impounded or destroyed should they be parked illegally.

Traffic wardens would also be allowed to use clamping to immobilise vehicles. An increase in fines from £60 to £80 has been recommended by the Scottish government and that could also be adopted.
