States reveal population rise in Jersey

The number of people living in Jersey rose last year compared with figures for the previous 12 months.

According to the States, the population increased by 600 in 2009 and now stands at about 92,500 people.

The migration of 350 people accounted for part of the rise and the remainder was made up by the number of births outstripping the number of deaths.

According to the last census carried out in Jersey in 2001, a total of 87,186 people lived on the island.
