Flood protection for deluged Worcestershire village

A quarter of homes in Peopleton were flooded in 2007

A Worcestershire village has raised £150,000 for flood defences after 50 homes were deluged by surface water from saturated fields in 2007.

Peopleton Parish Council and its residents have raised £25,000 for a pipe system to take rain water from the fields to nearby Bow Brook.

Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire County Council have agreed to fund the rest of the project.

They said government grants were only available for river flooding schemes.

However, the government has given a £50,000 loan to the project and work is due to start in August.
