Work on Guernsey's Les Bourgs Hospice begins

The hospice has moved to an empty ward during the work

Work has begun on the demolition and reconstruction of Guernsey's only independent hospice.

Les Bourgs has helped thousands of terminally ill people and their families in the Bailiwick for 18 years.

The redevelopment and expansion of the site in St Andrew follows years of fundraising.

Jack Honeybill, chairman of the Friends of the Bourgs, said it was a great relief to see work starting on the site after so long planning and fundraising.

While the work goes on the hospice has relocated to one of the empty wards in the Princess Elizabeth Hospital, which is no longer used since the building of the new clinical block.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place outside the property on Bailiff's Cross Road for four months while work continues.
