Tory David Davies heads Welsh affairs select committee

David Davies is the first Conservative MP to chair the committee
Monmouth MP David Davies has been elected unopposed as chair of an influential group of MPs at Westminster.
He will be the first Conservative to chair the Welsh affairs select committee in its 31-year history.
Mr Davies attended only 11% of the committee's meetings last year.
He said this was because he prioritised his membership of the home affairs committee, which he has now relinquished.
Mr Davies' election brings to an end a continuous run of Labour chairmen of the Welsh affairs select committee.
Labour MPs held the job from Leo Abse in 1979 to Hywel Francis, who chaired it in the last parliament.
The parties had agreed the committee would be led by a Conservative MP.
Mr Davies had said he really wanted the job and would get the committee to look at issues which he thought were important to Wales.
Mr Francis is standing for the chair of the new constitutional and political reform committee at Westminster.
