Council leader in Northamptonshire is appointed MBE

The leader of a Northamptonshire district council has been appointed MBE in the Queen's Birthday honours.

Sandra Barnes, of Towester, leader of South Northamptonshire District Council since 1999, has been honoured for services to local government.

Janice Childs has been appointed MBE for services to elderly people in Irthingborough.

She set up the College Street day centre in Irthingborough 30 years ago.

Fairtrade campaigner, homeless charity trustee and former Billing councillor Margaret Pritchard was also appointed MBE.

She has been recognised for her work on Brookside Residents' Council.
