Team of lawyers could replace bailiffs as Speaker

A Jersey advocate has said bailiffs could be replaced in the role of Speaker by a team of qualified lawyers.
A panel is examining the dual role of the bailiff as Speaker - the head of the States - and the chief judge.
Tim Hanson said he thought the Speaker role could be rotated, allowing the bailiff to concentrate on court cases.
The independent panel, which is led by Lord Carswell, is due to report back to the States within a year.
