Dumfries and Galloway data farm receives approval

Plans have been approved for a second multi-million pound data farm scheme in rural Dumfries and Galloway.
Internet Villages International (IVI) got planning consent for its project at Johnstonebank Farm near Ecclefechan.
Another data centre at Peelhouses on the outskirts of Lockerbie was approved by councillors late last year.
The Annandale and Eskdale area committee had delayed its decision on the IVI project in order to get more information on a range of issues.
A number of local residents had voiced concerns about the visual and traffic impact of the plans.
However, planning officers had advised the authority to give the green light to the IVI project with a number of conditions attached.
The scheme was first unveiled in December 2007 when it promised about 500 jobs, but the number of direct posts involved has now been reduced to 15.
