Injured woman rescued after Newquay coasteering fall

A number of emergency services were involved in rescuing the woman

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after injuring herself off the coast of Cornwall.

The woman was coasteering - a sport which combines cliff climbing with jumping into the sea and swimming - when she landed badly on Tuesday.

Falmouth Coastguards co-ordinated a rescue operation involving a number of lifeguards, Newquay's two inshore lifeboats and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

The woman was flown to Royal Cornwall Hospital for treatment to her back.

She was taking part in an organised coasteering party when a jump went awry off Porth Island, near Whipsiderry beach.
