A car splattered with paint by Damien Hirst is due to be auctioned off at Sir Elton John's charity ball later.

The Audi A1, described as "fully driveable and road legal", was painted by the Bristol-born artist in his Gloucestershire studio.

It will be sold along with a 6ft wide canvas painting the artist made at the same time.

The White Tie and Tiara Ball raises money for the Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF).

The annual event is held by Sir Elton and his partner David Furnish at their home.

Sir Elton said: "This is one of the most exciting auction items we have ever had for White Tie."

Deliveries of the Audi A1 to the UK are expected to start in November.
