Dyfi bridge near Machynlleth closed after lorry crash

A bridge on a main road between Powys and Gwynedd has been closed after being hit by a lorry.
Powys council said the bridge over the River Dyfi, near Machynlleth, would reopen on Friday afternoon, but only to light vehicles such as cars.
A wall was knocked down by the articulated lorry and concrete safety barriers will be put in place to protect motorists.
Traffic lights will be erected, but lorries face a lengthy detour.
Engineers examined the bridge to assess the damage after the crash at about 0845 BST.
Diversions are in place for the time being for those travelling on the A487 between Aberystwyth and Machynlleth.
The council said the bridge had suffered structural damage, but would reopen mid-afternoon to light vehicles.
Heavy good vehicles will be banned and face lengthy diversions for "some considerable time", said an authority spokesman.
