A 14-year-old girl has been rescued from the sea after getting into difficulties at a beach in Cornwall, coastguards have said.

She was discovered unconscious in the water at Fistral beach at about 1150 BST and was brought back to the beach by RNLI lifeguards.

She was drifting in and out of consciousness while being given first aid on the beach.

She was then taken to hospital by air ambulance. Her condition is not known.

The lifeguards were alerted to the situation by the surf school the girl was having a lesson with on the beach.

Coastguards said she had probably got into difficulties because of an existing medical condition.
