Scottish Borders Council objects to wind farm plans

The company wants to build 23 turbines near the village of Oxton
A public inquiry will take place after councillors went against officer advice and opposed a wind farm in the Borders.
RWE Npower Renewables wants to build a 23-turbine development near Oxton.
Scottish Borders Council had been advised not to object to the scheme but to seek to attach conditions instead.
However, the majority of councillors backed a move by Borders Party member Nicholas Watson to oppose the project on grounds of cumulative impact, noise and the affect on walking routes.
Due to the scale of the development the Scottish government will have the final say on whether to approve the Rowantree Wind Farm proposal.
The council objection now means there will be a public inquiry before they deliver their decision.
The company behind the 69MW scheme has said it could meet the energy needs of about 42,000 homes.
