Stoke-on-Trent City Council cuts £3.4m from budgets

Cuts of £3.4m have been announced by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The cuts will mainly affect services the council runs with the police, or the NHS such as tackling obesity in the city.

A council spokesman said cuts were being imposed by central government in "tough financial times".

He added the £3.4m was just the beginning, with the government talking about making 25% cuts across the public sector.

Councillor Ross Irving, cabinet member for the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) and Partnerships, said the council had no choice but to pass on the reductions.

"Each of the partners in the LSP affected by these cuts has worked with us to review expenditure and make the savings in ways which will cause the least impact on our community," he said.
