'Lolli-cams' film speeding drivers in Stourport

A new device aimed at keeping children safe as they cross the road is being tested in Worcestershire.

A 'lolli-cam', as it is known, is a £1,000 tiny camera which has been embedded in the black strip across a lollipop sign.

The idea is that it will record any instances of motorists breaking the law.

The trial is taking place outside Stourport High School in Windermere Way, Stourport.

Councillor Derek Prodger, cabinet member for transport and safe environment at the county council, said it was unbelievable that the council had to take such action.

"Motorists needs to be made aware they are committing a criminal offence and we hope this new technology will prove an effective deterrent," he said.
