People who enjoy some of Surrey's most popular beauty spots are invited to have their say on their future management.

Many of the county's heathlands boast a diverse wildlife and are designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

But the Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT) said several areas face a threat from invading scrub, trees and grasses.

The consultation affects Thursley, Ockley, Elstead, Royal and Bagmoor Commons, near Farnham.

An SWT spokesman said: "It is not an option to do nothing and let the Commons decline as an internationally-important wildlife site."

The consultation is being carried out by SWT in partnership with Natural England and the Ministry of Defence, which uses part of the Commons for training exercises.
