Sister Act show role for Goldberg

Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg is set to make her West End debut next month starring in the hit musical Sister Act.

She will take over from Sheila Hancock as Mother Superior - a different role to the one Goldberg played in the original 1992 film.

Goldberg helped to produce the stage show, which was first performed in 2006 in California.

Three years later the actress brought the production to the London Palladium.

Patina Miller will continue to play the lead role of Deloris Van Cartier, a singer who goes into hiding disguised as a nun after witnessing a murder.

Goldberg will make her debut on 10 August and will perform 23 shows, ending on 31 August.

The production was recently nominated in four categories at the prestigious Laurence Olivier Awards.
