Telford Council saves £1m on senior management posts

A Shropshire council says it will save more than £1m a year with cuts in senior management posts.
Telford & Wrekin Council said the number of senior managers has been cut by a third since September 2008.
The council had its funding from the government cut by £2.2m this year but has pledged savings made from the job cuts would be used to protect frontline services.
Councillors are due to consider the shortfall in August.
The most recent change saw the corporate director with responsibility for children and young people retire.
Restructure
This post will not be replaced and its responsibilities will be shared among existing members of the council's senior managers and chief executive Victor Brownlees.
Council leader Andrew Eade said the council was going through a major restructure.
"At the end of this process it will be a smaller, more focussed organisation than it was when it began," he said.
"Reducing senior management costs will help significantly towards this. At a time when we are asking the council to make significant savings in staff costs, it is only right that this should start at the top."
Mr Eade said there would also be a review of councillors allowances later this summer.
