Surrey County Council launches 'ebook' library

  • Published

People in Surrey can now download books from a digital library following the launch of the county council's "ebooks" service.

The scheme allows members 24-hour access to about 300 full text electronic versions of published titles and 100 audio books over the internet.

Once they have been download users can read or listen to the item for two weeks before it becomes inactive.

They can then be downloaded on to a computer, mobile phone and MP3 player.

Councillor Denise Saliagopoulos said: "This service is part of Surrey County Council's efforts to take advantage of developments in technology to provide the best service we can.

"When Shakespeare saw his plays performed at the Globe Theatre, I'm sure he never imagined his texts would be borrowed at the touch of a button anywhere around the globe."
