The chaplain who led the memorials in the aftermath of last year's North Sea helicopter disaster has been honoured by the Queen.

The Reverend Andrew Jolly, who is chaplain for the UK's oil and gas industry, received an MBE at a ceremony at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Rev Jolly conducted a special service in Aberdeen after the Super Puma crash which killed 16 men in April 2009.

He was granted an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

On the first anniversary of the disaster, Rev Jolly also conducted a prayer service at the Kirk of St Nicholas in Aberdeen which was attended by hundreds of people.

Eight of the victims came from the north east of Scotland, seven from the rest of the UK, and one from Latvia.

On hearing of his award, Rev Jolly said the honour served as a reminder of all those who, through natural causes or accident, had lost their lives offshore during his time as chaplain.
