A thief is set to be sentenced after he was caught interfering with cars by an off-duty police officer.

Simon Stack was spotted loitering near cars in Bhylls Lane, Wolverhampton, in the early hours of 20 June.

The officer was on his way home from work and called his colleagues for back up, leading to Stack's arrest 24 hours later.

The 42-year-old of Olinthus Avenue, Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to motor vehicle interference at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 21 June.

He also indicated guilty pleas for one charge of theft from a motor vehicle and three charges of theft from a shop and is due to be sentenced at Walsall Magistrates' Court on 1 August.

Sgt Matt Walker, of Staffordshire Police, said: "Burglary, theft and robbery can have profound impact on victims and we’re committed to working proactively to stop those responsible."
