Arrest after gun fired in bar injured three

A man has been arrested after three people were injured when a gun was fired inside a Smethwick restaurant.

The suspect, held on suspicion of attempted murder, was detained after emergency services were called to Avenue Bar and Restaurant on Rolfe Street, at about 03:30 BST on Monday.

The male victims, one in his 20s and the other in his 40s, remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition while the injured woman, aged in her 20s, has since been discharged.

A 23-year-old Birmingham man, was arrested on two counts of suspicion of attempted murder, as well as possession of a firearm and assault, West Midlands Police said.

Road closures in the area have now been lifted, the force said.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the shooting have been urged to come forward as inquiries continue.
