A man has died after he was hit by a lorry on a motorway.

The 48-year-old was struck just before 03:45 BST between junctions 2 and 3 on the northbound M57 in Knowsley, Merseyside Police said.

His family has been informed, the force said.

The driver of the HGV stopped at the scene and was assisting police with their inquiries.

Witness appeal

Det Sgt Kurt Timpson said, “My thoughts are with the man’s family at this sad time. They are being supported.”

Both carriageways of the motorway were closed while investigations took place and motorists were advised to take other routes.

Police appealed for anyone with information or footage to contact them.
