Community 'united in grief' after pedestrian death

The family of a man who died after being struck by a lorry in Oban said the local community was "united in grief".

Douglas Macarthur, 59, who was known as Doc, was hit by an HGV in the town's George Street area in the early hours of 27 June.

Police Scotland said his body was found about two miles from the point of impact, at about 01:55, on the A85 near Pennyfuir.

The driver of the lorry was traced and inquiries are ongoing.

In a statement released by the force, Mr Macarthur’s family said they had been "positively touched by all the messages of condolences and personal tributes to their much-loved brother and uncle".

It added: "Doc was obviously held in high regard throughout the local community and beyond, who are united in grief."

Insp Roy McCarney appealed for information and added: "Inquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
