Police are appealing for information after an elderly woman was pushed to the ground and robbed in an alleyway in Nottinghamshire.

The 81-year-old was targeted by two men on bikes as she walked between Longdale Road and Mansfield Road, in Daybrook, just after 12:00 BST on Tuesday.

Nottinghamshire Police said they approached her from behind and pushed her over before stealing her handbag, which contained cash, bank cards and house keys.

Det Charlotte Read said the victim had been left "extremely shaken".

The suspects are both described as being white and between 18 and 21 years old.

One man was of a slim build with short ginger hair, parted in the middle.

'Cruel and violent'

Police said he was wearing matching light grey joggers and a jacket with black trainers.

The other man was described as being of a large build, wearing a dark-coloured short-sleeved top.

Officers believe he was wearing a black hat with a red Manchester United logo on the front.

Det Read said: "This was an extremely cruel and violent act on an elderly member of our community.

"As you would expect, this incident has left the victim extremely shaken.

"She is a lovely woman who is having to face the aftermath of what has happened to her.

"These men picked on this victim due to her vulnerability and we are determined to ensure these two men are caught and put before the courts."
