St Catherine’s breakwater and slipway is due to be assessed for post-storm damage, Ports of Jersey has said.

A specialist infrastructure consulting firm has been hired to carrying out surveys from 5-14 March, to determine the level of work needed to protect the structure.

Sections of the slipway were damaged during Storm Ciaran, leaving cracks ranging from 50mm to 150mm in width, as well as some undermined stonework toward the lower end.

Ports of Jersey said the work will restrict access to the area due to the equipment being used.

The surveys will use drones, ground penetrating radar and multi-channel analysis of surface waves.

Ports of Jersey said the size of some of the equipment will temporarily restrict access to parking spaces, the breakwater, and slipway.

Parking restrictions will be kept to a minimum and will only affect a small number of spaces, for short periods of time, they said.

The details of access limits will be confirmed once the infrastructure consulting firm AECOM is on site.

Ports of Jersey said "It is essential to assess the full extent of the damage before planning the repair work, which will be planned and undertaken once the results of the survey have been analysed".
