New plans for empty city centre school building

The Derek Crothall Building used to house the Hull Trinity House Academy school

An empty seven-storey building in Hull city centre could be transformed into a training and sports centre.

Plans for the former Hull Trinity House Academy on George Street could see part of the building used as sports facilities for nearby Hull College.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the tower block would be converted into a Centre for Learning.

It would provide accommodation for the city council's training and adult education services, as well as housing a council data centre

The Derek Crothall Building was the former city centre campus of the University of Humberside.

After the university left the city to relocate to Lincoln in 2002, the building was eventually taken over by Hull Trinity school.

The school relocated to a new site on Beverley Road last year leaving the building empty.

A planning application has been submitted to Hull City Council for the change of use.
