A man was found with "potentially life-threatening" gunshot wounds outside a house in Wolverhampton, police said.

Police were called to Hailes Park Close, Parkfields, near Phoenix Park, just before 02:00 BST on Tuesday.

The man in his 30s was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Phoenix Park has been sealed off while forensic examinations are completed and CCTV is also being recovered and reviewed. Police appealed for witnesses to come forward.

West Midlands Police also said officers had carried out a thorough search of the area and house-to-house inquiries were continuing.

A spokesperson said: "Our teams know that incidents like this can be a real cause for concern but officers believe this is an isolated incident and extra patrols are being carried out to offer reassurance to people in the area over the coming days.

"We would ask that anyone who has any information or doorbell footage from around the time of the incident gets in touch with investigators."
